  15.      The _i_c_o_n_c_a_t_a_l_o_g (or _i_c_o_n_b_o_o_k) contains named pages which can store any
  16.      type of icon, including files, folders, programs, printers, people,
  17.      hosts, and tape and disk drives.

  19.      Icons are stored in the catalog as references to the actual entities. If
  20.      an icon is dragged onto an iconcatalog page, only a reference to the
  21.      actual entity is kept on the page.  With the default IndigoMagic color
  22.      scheme, blue iconcatalog pages can be distinguished easily from green
  23.      icon views.

  25.      The "Make Reference" operation on icons in the icon catalog will create
  26.      new reference icons in the icon catalog.  To remove a reference icon, the
  27.      user can click on the icon, then select the right-mouse menu Remove item;
  28.      only the reference icon will be deleted--the original file will remain
  29.      safely on the system.

  31.      Any references (also called symbolic links) will be created in
  32.      subdirectories under the user's local iconcatalog pages directory,
  33.      $_H_O_M_E/._d_e_s_k_t_o_p-<_h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e>/_i_c_o_n_c_a_t_a_l_o_g/_p_a_g_e_s.

  35.      An iconcatalog page can be a system page or an user page or a combination
  36.      of the two.

  38.      The files in /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_d_e_s_k_t_o_p/_i_c_o_n_c_a_t_a_l_o_g/_p_a_g_e_s/_C define the contents of
  39.      each default system page, such as Applications and Demos.  Icons in the
  40.      default system pages can not be removed by the general user, because the
  41.      reference icons (symbolic links) are installed on the system and owned by
  42.      the special root user.  In this way, icons on the default system pages
  43.      are protected from accidental removal.

  45.      New blank pages can be created in the iconcatalog for storing user-chosen
  46.      icons.  These new, user pages can be renamed, though the system's default
  47.      pages (ex., Applications, Demos) can not be renamed.  The iconcatalog
  48.      checks automatically to ensure that no two pages have the same name.

  50.      The user can drag icons onto or delete reference icons from any page.
  51.      Here, a combination of user and system page icons are presented. The user
  52.      can remove unwanted icons straightforwardly, however, using the right-
  53.      mouse or Selected menu "remove" operation.

  55.      This application has the ``run-once'' feature, meaning only one instance
  56.      of the application will run at one time.  Attempting to launch the
  57.      application a second time will have the effect of deiconifying the
  58.      application window or popping it to the top on the current desk.

  79.      The iconcatalog remembers each page's layout--that is, each page's
  80.      contents and mode of display. There are files named after the page and
  81.      are located in the user's subdirectory $_H_O_M_E/._d_e_s_k_t_o_p-
  82.      <_h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e>/_i_c_o_n_c_a_t_a_l_o_g/_l_a_y_o_u_t_s.  These files record the current layout of
  83.      each page.

  85.      Upon upgrade from previous IRIX releases to IRIX 6.5, the old page
  86.      information will be translated to the new formats and placed in the
  87.      following new locations.  The old information will then be removed.
